Weird.
Horses were originally bred to race were they? Is that where it all stems back?

Of course it is. Why only the other day I saw some New Forest ponies lined up placing a bet on each other in terms of who was going to win.

not at all - anyways I would prefer all race horses to be rehomed and not raced - they stand a chance of living a long normal life then.

The majority of people will not keep a horse that isn't useful. If you grow out of a horse, and you want one to ride, you don't keep your smaller one - you sell it, and buy a larger one.
The majority of horse-people cannot afford to keep all their 'old' horses as pets....
I guess I know different people to you.

But then - I know people who keep Sheep for showing, and chickens as well. They are mainly kept as pets for showing/breeding although they will kill(for food) the males (usually I think)

Of course they were! Just as sheep and cows and chickens were bred to be killed.

At least the horses have a better than even chance of NOT dying.

Those risks are life risks. In which case should I let Woody run about on laminate flooring again? He loved it, so did we. So, it must be OK then?

Ermmm, race horses were? and as the topic is about race horses the reference to them being bred for the job is correct.

What? Oh please.

Horses have been used for transport purposes for as long as the history books go back.

MAN made horse racing a sport.
