I don't use any food to give tablets, in certain circumstances it can make the dog vomit.
This is what I do
.. place my hand over the top of the dogs nose and gently press on both sides of the angle of the jaw and the dog's mouth should open,
.. tilt the dogs head back and drop the pill at the back of the throat,
.. stroke the dogs throat gently with a downward movement and this will encourage the dog to swallow,
..give lots of praise.
The whole process takes about two seconds and ensures the pill has been swallowed. I start getting puppies used to having their mouths open when they are tiny by opening the mouth/pretending to look inside/giving lots of praise,
It make life easier for the dog when it needs medical checks.

I also find honey is good a few times a day to help soothe their throat when they have KC

My oldest Cavalier has a cocktail of medication every day & he gets his in Omega 3 enriched low fat margarine. He's the only dog I know who asks for his tablets, as soon as I get his tablets out he sits licking his lips:smt002 & swallows them in one go
