Have you read the instructions that came with it Not being funny but people have been known not to read them
When i first got mine i had to format it first, did you get any software with it
Also check the connections and perhaps put it in to a different USB port.

The "instructions" (if you can call them that) are extremely minimal - they are:
1. Unpack it
2. Plug the power in
3. Plug the USB in
4. After a few minutes your HD is ready to GO!

Pretty cr*p eh? Have also checked connections and and swapped USB.

NO JOY! ArrrrrgggghhhH!

You could try this, click "My computer" click "Add hardware" then follow the instructions.

P.S. You have switched the hard drive on

I'll try the "add hardware" when I get home (at work at the moment).

The HD doesn't have an on/off switch, but yes, it is on

It sounds like you're doing everything right, If you can see if you can try it on a different pc.

I've just had a word with a guy at work. It "looks" like there's a conflict of drives, as I log on to work from home, and that particular feature didn't work when I had the external HD plugged in. All I need to do (she said, hopefully) is change the drive letter to a free one and it should work.
If this makes no sense to anyone with an IT brain on here, just imagine how scary it sounds to me

I would say its possible but external HDs tend to look for a free drive letter automatically
