http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/pr...hs1&l=en&s=dhs (middle one)

the dell one is nice, prolly the better ones there.

the second from last is a refurbished one but is lowest price and spec.

the others ar al ltypical of that price range.

the 1.5 processor is adequate as its a laptop, the 256 ram is ok however i would reccomend a minimum of 512 because its running windows xp.

if its just for geneal browsing and stuff then a hard drive of around 30 - 40 gig is fine.

so thats sort fot hign you can expect to find nd for the task they are all up to the job

Thanks Leo I think she will probably want a brand new one though to be honest. She won't be doing a lot on it - just somewhere to put her photos and maybe print some greetings cards (something she has always wanted to do for some strange reason ) because her old computer won't do this. Other than this she will probably be playing spider solitare on it

Personally, don't think you can beat Dell. www.dell.com

Make sure she goes for the pentium processor and not the celeron though cause although they're cheaper the pentium is better.

Hi Foxy, I'm a bit late on this one, but in terms of processors, laptops tend to use different ones to those used in desktops - the desktop processors are more powerful, but if you used them in laptops, your battery life wouldn't be very long. Additionally, the desktop processors generate a fair bit of heat - which would be quite hard to dissipate in a laptop.

The Pentium-M processor is the one used in the higher-end Intel-based laptops - the cheaper Celeron-M cousins are used in the low-end Intel-based laptops.

Which one is most suitable depends on what tasks you put to it - if it is just web surfing and some word processing, the Celeron-M based ones will be quite OK. Remember that the Pentium-M processors are quite expensive - adding to the laptop price. It might be better to get a cheaper Celeron-M based laptop and increase the memory & hard disk options.
