My collie, who died today, was totally thunder and gunshot phobic. Knowing her past and the local Irish belief that you must never let a dog in the house when there is thunder... One storm that lasted three days years ago saw her prostate and vomiting. Vet refused to see her as it was "behavioural" and they will not prescribe for that here. I kept her alive with rehydration fluid. Another time I was out when thunder hit. She broke down a door and damaged another trying to find me and it was eleven days before she came home. Terror in canine form and nothing helped. After we came here, I realised that she would only react if she saw me. I checked a US collie site and she was typical and way past any desensitising. It was pitiful to see her.
