The average household, can save between £10 and £80 by not leaving things on 'stand-by'!
Leaving things on stand-by is just a waste of electricity

Help reduce carbon emissions and save your electricity bill at the same time. Switch it off if it is not a server:

I turn my comp off at night , I do not unplug it at the mains. I only leave it on when downloading. Did you know ? Leaving your computer on all night (totally unecessary) for 1 year saves you £100 in electricity....FACT

Ours are on 24/7 - I turn mine off once a week (vsmon). As a smoker and the driver of a 4.0 ltr 4x4, there are better ways I could cut down on carbon emissions And saving £1.92 a week isn't as great an incentive as it might be

our gets turned off unless we are downloading or defrag i think it would depend what components you have ie if the fan keeps it cool etc.
we havent had any probs yet, plus if it does overheat then the motherboard will shut it down if it has the features most have got this protection on board.

I always shut mine down, I leave the plug in. I shut it down if I take Luna out for a long walk and shopping, but if I just pop down with Luna for 10-15 minutes I leave it on.

My telly, video and dvdplayer are completely shut down on the switch, no stand-by here..

Mine's on most of the day unless I know I'm going to be out for a long period of time! It's switched off at night 'cos I can't sleep with the hum it makes! Any little noise like that disturbs my sleep!
