Louie was born and raised in a kennel and pen outside, most of the litter were going to be working dogs so they needed to get used to it. And he had 8 dogs living in the house.. Louie was exposed to slight traffic noise from the road on the front of the house (kennel on back), horses, geese and cows as well as other things such as dogs, cats and the elements (albeit just the noise of them), they had a heat lamp and the kennel was clean the twice we saw it and the once when my in laws went to see him before we brought him home.
If I had any problems with how he had been raised I would not have let OH go ahead with getting him.

Banning the keeping of pups out in kennels would also stop a lot of the really good breeders too.. the man on the link who is considered a good breeder and has a licence to have 75 bitches with pups (or something like that) kept his dogs in kennels.. I see no issue with that as the kennels were clean.

i do believe you are twisting her words, what she said was she had no problem with him keeping his dogs in kennels as they were clean, she only mentioned the number of dogs he was licensed to have because that makes him easier to ID when talking about the film as opposed to the man who kept his puppy's in a dark and dirty shed (who the film was about)

Precisely! I have more of a problem with people meeting sellers in laybys and car parks and handing over scruffy, ill bred pups than someone who has a licence for 75 breeding bitches oh whom are not put in free ads or sold under a false name and are kept in clean and comfy kennels.. The fact that he would have that number would concern me if the video was about him but it is not and he is obviously up to date and in line with the law, especially seeing as he has a breeding license and not a pet shop one like the bloke who the video was about.

I still would not agree with someone having 75 breeding bitches. No reputable breeder would have that many bitches, its all just profit. I don't see how a dealer (as the one mentioned in the film) is worse than a breeder who has 75 bitches, there are both as bad as each other, no matter how clean or comfy the kennels are.

And this is where the majority of puppy farmers and BYBs raise their puppies too. Banning this practice would stamp out puppy farmers almost completely. And anyone who keeps their working dogs outdoors, can bring them inside to raise the pups.
I have to disagree with this, a lot of very good breeders I know raise litters outside in kennels. IME often initially the litter is raised in the home, but once the pups start to find their feet they're then raised outdoors. Barney and Rossi, my parents dogs were both raised in this way and are very happy, healthy, well adjusted pets. Once puppies get to 4/5 weeks of age the mess they create is immense and it can be very difficult to cope with in a normal sized home. As long as the Dam and pups are well cared for and healthy then I'm happy, regardless of where they're raised.

He has a licence to have 75 - he doesn't actually have that many if you listen on the video..

And to be fair, even if he does do it for money, he won't make much profit because he has to clean the kennels, make them comfy, the heat and lights etc will cost him, he has to go about raising them for 8 weeks out of his own pocket, he has to feed all the dogs and puppies, vet treatments, register them which is £13 per puppy with the KC and there is a £60 fee for late additions, now if the average dog has 6-8 puppies that initial fee can cost £78-£104 per litter (although I don't remember hearing it on the video) - it's not a cheap thing to do so IMO he wasn't a puppy farmer or dealer or BYB, he was a man with a license for a lot of breeding bitches - of which he didn't have that many.. However I would not agree with his breeding practices either, but we aren't discussing that because I am showing you how he and the dealer are not the same.

And if you don't see how a dealer; of whom, buys puppies from Puppy farms - where the pups are brought up in unsanitary conditions have underlying illness most of the time and who quite often have behavioural issues that develop due to their breeding. Let alone their poor mothers of whom will be bred time and time again - just for profit, because that money is not spent on feeding them, clean areas, vet treatments. Then this dealer will sell them on for his own profit, not caring about their welfare, lie about them, is any worse than someone who has a licence to breed, keeps clean kennels and looks after his dogs - then I'm lost..

I bet you the owners of the pups from the clean kennels paid less over the life of their dog than the ones bought from the dealer.

The man who the flim is about, who they have been following for several months, has a pet shop licence, he has the licence to sell not breed. In which he has moved to another property after one property had the licence revoked so he could get another - in that time he was breeding and selling dogs illegally.

The two PF who he bought of said that they only sold him a number of pups from a litter they both had. However he was saying, he'd bred them all, and that these people were his partners. He sold these puppies via a number of free ads, using different numbers all the time and the lady who has the CKCS on the video, bought one from him, then after Parvo threatened the life of that puppy, they did some more research and found another number so they could get another dog - however it was the same guy who sold her her first dog. The new dog has behavioural issues also.

The person who's name is on the dogs breeding certificate said that she had only sold the man two boys, so how one of the CKCS managed to be a girl was a mystery - oh wait, no he was illegally breeding and selling them on under someone elses name.

I swear to you all - I only watched the video once.

Now if you want to think that they are both as bad as each other then you do that, that is your opinion, but in mine, the man with the licence to have 75 is a damn sight better - for one, I didn't shed a tear when the cameras went around his kennels. Even though I do not agree with his practices - I would rather buy a puppy from him than the dealers. (If there was a choice between those two - but there isn't there's more of a choice)

IMO, neither of them should be in business. No-one should have that many breeding bitches (or a licence for so many), and no-one should be dealing puppies either.

The only breeders that should be breeding are people who have very few breeding bitches, and they health test all the parent dogs.

And in my world we would have chocolate lamposts so I could fix my craving when ever I wanted

What we want doesn't always happen and it isn't a perfect world. All we can do is try but there will always be someone.
I'm not saying either of them are the best but I did state I was showing how the man with the licence was better than the dealer and puppy farms..

there are a few breeders who do have large numbers of breeding bitches in kennels, however one such individual has kennels that are heated always sparkling there are at least 6 staff on site at any one time, the dogs dont bark when you go round they are all very happy and content AND all his bitches and dogs all have above and beyond the health tests required all puppies are vet checked, there is even a 'puppy socialising room' on the premises where the puppies spend time with staff members getting used to house noises toys they are introduced to traffic and are well rounded.
he doesnt keep dogs the way i personally would choose to and he does run it as a business but when he is producing dogs which are healthy in body and mind i have very little objection, especially when he rehomes his dogs personally rather than putting them to sleep or palming them off on rescues. he does take puppies bak if needed too. i would choose a breeder like this over a lot i have witnessed.

no its not perfect, but unfortunately its an imperfect world and people do not treat their dogs and cannot be expected to treat their dogs the same way we do ourselves, the idea of having dogs on the bed or hosing them down in the shower because we dont want them getting cold outside is outrageous to the rest of my family, i am sure you have been criticised in the past for things you do because you have not measured up to someones idea of dog owner ship. all we can try and do is the best we can for our dogs
