Maybe it's different since I grew up in the farming community (we don't have a farm ourselves). In your opinion what would be a better way to slaughter animals?

Apart from the Halal slaughtered animals the methods I thought we're humane enough...but the treatment by some of the slaughter men was not.A cattle prod was used ,animals were kicked and thrown around.
The Halal slaughter SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IMO.....

I think if you work in a slaughterhouse you're probably not an 'animal person'. Not that this excuses it but that's just the way it is.

What was so bad about the Halal slaughter?

Although i didnt watch the program, from what i understand-all animals are electricaly stunned before slaughter takes place. Was this not being carried out on film???

When my mum was little, there was a slaughterhouse in town and (this sounds horrible) they used to watch the cattle being poleaxed and the pigs having their throats slit while hung upside down by rear legs.Bear in mind though, this was decades ago before the advent of modern practices.

ps.I have never agreed with Halal and the shop which specialised in it round the corner is closing down.

Well it would be against Halal practice to stun the animals so I presume they were sliting the throat.

It is a big no no in the Halal fatwas for an animal to suffer needlessly
