Just to get this thread back on topic, perhaps a bit of TV sport history would help.

Back in the late 1990's Granada Television introduced the first digital TV service via a subsidiary called 'On Digital', it was terrestial not satellite, and to encourage viewers to subscribe they did a deal with the FA for all the Premier Division games.

They paid an absolutely ridiculous price, the football clubs thought all their Xmas's had come at once

Mr. Murdoch (Sky) was not happy but at the time he could do 'nowt but it was only a matter of time before On-Digital went bust (Owing £ millions BTW)

That left Mr. Murdoch (Sky) as the monopoly supplier of digital TV sport, and what do monopolies do...........well I think we all know the answer to that one.

So that's why it costs an arm & a leg to subscribe to Sky Sports, there is no real alternative if you want everything.

To be honest, I don't really care for sports and wouldn't bother with the damn thing if it wasn't for family and friends who like to come round and watch it with my brother Virgin also charge like £3.99 per movie your order and £4 something per HD movie. They say that it's such and such per month, but you get really restricted. I cant live on 10mb broadband let alone play games on it

Before mum moved in with me, i paid for Skys World Package for her which included sports channels, it was over £50 a month, cant recall exact amount. I had it for the films for her which were repeated time & again. I just have the standard package here altho now have 2nd box in the house where you can view independent channels if you want & the two cost £33 a month. No sports tho!!

If your with SKY phone Virgin and get a quote for a new customer for the same package your on, phone SKY back - tell em your leaving cos it's too expensive and you can get the same from Virgin for £x - SKY will give you a reduction!

Works the other way around too

xx

Same as Phil but I also subscribe to ESPN for sport, have Multi-Room and also HD. Grand total of (last time I looked at a bill) £82.

It is eye watering but there is no other way, bar finding a pub that shows football and I can't sit in a pub nursing one pint so it would probably be dearer in the long run. Not to mention the hangovers

We were paying about £110 a month on Virgin (top tier TV, top level broadband and stuff - our one big financial indulgence)... have it down to about £90 via Sky since we switched.

In the past when skint though I have (on Virgin - haven't tried it with Sky) put the sport channel on for the footy season and then taken it off again once the season's finished cos I can't stand cricket.

...Hubby would watch 22 blind three legged goats kicking a ball around the pitch - he'll watch all and any football that's on so it does get used here.
