We took a cardboard box for Chester and a laundry basket for Griffin, both lined with blankets but Chester travelled on the back seat with my sister and led half in/half out of the box wriggling toward her lap and Griffin travelled almost the whole way on my lap, mostly sat looking right into my face, not normal puppy behaviour at all but he's not really an average puppy! The pair of them are from the same breeder just outside of Southampton. You probably have but have you left a towel or something with the breeder so he knows your smell, neither of ours actually seemed fussed by them but they're supposed to help .

Sika came from Derby, all the way to Orkney on my Dad's knee! She howled in her cage so he went for the easy option. Mum was driving. It was very kind of them to detour to Derby to pick her up for me, from Glasgow, en route to Orkney ha ha! The had an overnight at my aunt and uncles in Edinburgh

Take some incontinence pads with you - nope not joking, lol - it's what vet hospitals use nowadays in their animal pens. Either in the carrier, or on someone's lap, just in case.

I would also hope that by the time you get him, his breeder will have taken the puppies in a car at least once as part of proper socialisation.

Travel sickness seems to occur when dogs are nervous and stressed, so maybe that's why the cuddles on the lap work best.... perhaps a warm lap and the reassuring warmth & closeness of another being would soothe a pup better than being in a box or carrier.

BTW have been seeing his pics elsewhere and thinking how gorgeous he is! I bet you are excited fit to burst!

We bought Rolo home cuddled on my passenger (Hubby) lap, the journey was only around 40 mins, but he stayed very calm and sleepy and was no bother at all, but is was later in the evening.

Not meaning to sound like i'm nagging I promise, but please think of safety too.

We were reminded of this only a month ago when our friend had a terrible car accident only a few miles from training one saturday morning. One dog went missing for a while and another is still very badly injured. If the dogs hadn't been behind a dog guard our friend could quite easily have been killed.

I have travelled long distances with 8 week old pups and honestly they travel great in a crate and slept all the time. One a 4 hour journey. 3 of them had a 12 hour journey including a ferry and another flew. We had lots of stops where they had cuddles. Best of luck with your new pup

Really sorry to hear about your friends dogs.....truly awful.

Not nagging at all.........still weighing up all the options....

Have been loaned a cat carrier so have that option and will have a crate ready for him too, so will probably have that in the car as well.....Just thinking of all possibilities.

This really brings back memories for me. 13th December last year, we brought Luchi back from Sunderland to London.

Initially she was in a very comfy dog crate in the back, she did not care for that and in the first half hour she was sick and had a poo.

We stopped at a service station . cleaned everything up, (we were prepared with baby wipes, towels and water). She had a cuddle and spent the next 20 minutes or so on my lap, but even at 10 weeks, she was quite a big girl. With safety in mind, I returned her to her crate and she slept the whole way home.

Another option is the footwell in the car.

Congtats on your new pup. so exciting

Lennon travelled back home from Essex on Baz's lap in the back of the car.

Mya was collected by me alone, and she slept (and farted) all the way home..... apart from the smell, she was fine..... I needed oxygen!

Good luck Rach - all will be just fine, I'm sure x
