and yes, lily has fallen off the bottom step and all she did was look up as if to say, 'how did that happen?' and then went back to sleep!
and you're right about the stair being used as a scratching post tillymint, 2 of my cats think that is what it is for!

I put pepper on mine when I got new stair carpet & my cat stopped
