We're due to go back to the vets on Friday if the drops haven't made any difference, which they haven't so far. I'll speak to him then about allergy testing. He said referral to an eye specialist is £70 - £90. Strange isn't it because if it was me being referred to a specialist and told it could be £90, I'd being saying "How much?!" but with Poppy I just went "OK".

It's the same with the hamster, he cost me £6.95 2 years ago, so far he's cost me £48 at the vets, £59 for his Rotastak house and goodness knows how much on food, treats and toys, but when it comes to animals we just pay it don't we?!

That is SO TRUE! We spend the earth on our animals and don't think twice about it, but they are so worth it aren't they! When it comes to myself I'm a right tight-wad LOL

Best wishes for her eyes to improve soon, it is funny how these allergies can pop up. Hope she gets better soon xxx

hi harry
I hope I didn't sound like a meanie as i know me and you would both do everthing for our dogs i just wonderd if he could allergy test first to save you time as well ....an eye specialist would be more interested in eye faults as in the eye itself not the allergy side of things

hope all goes well

No, not at all. I hadn't really thought about a blood test for the allergy. We've just been keeping a record of when they go pink to see if there's any pattern, but there isn't. We really don't think it's the gravel because for a couple of days she's only been out in the garden to toilet, not to play and she's still had pink eyes.

I just hate putting the drops in her eyes when they don't seem to be doing anything. Last night she buried her little head in lap as if to saying "no mummy please don't" I was nearly crying as I put the drops in

We had always noticed they went a bit pink when she's really tired - you know when their little eyes are closing but they just won't give up playing but lately even after she's had a sleep they are still pink.

We wondered if it might be a fibre in the new carpet. I've not changed washing powder or fabric softener in her bedding so the carpet is the only new thing in the house.

Hi Harry 25 you have new carpets? Have they been treated with a stain/fire repellent like 'Scotchguard' by any chance '...this can affect some dogs as can the tiny fibres shed from new carpets. If it is an allergy related problem affecting Harry I doubt very much it would be gravel..if it is anything outside it would most likely be pollen in the air but it's a bit early for that too...

Hi Mini

Don't know if carpets have been treated as they were here when we moved in. The house is brand new and already had carpets and bedroom furniture. The carpet in our old house was treated with Scotchguard, anything you spilt on it just stayed on the surface, and she was fine. But the new carpet is a bit like that seagrass carpet, so it could be that.

I don't think it's something outside affecting Poppy's eyes as they are pink even if she's only out for a couple of minutes.

I'm just really confused because it doesn't seem to be bothering her, she doesn't try and rub them and they're not watering. Hopefully we'll get a bit further on Friday when we go back to the vets.

Thanks to everyone for the good wishes.

.
Thats really odd Harry25 , allergy/ conjunctivitis /dry eyes of any kind are usually very irritating to a dog and frequently cause tears and a runny nose as the body tries to get rid itself of the irritation .
At least if Poppy is not bothered and her sight is ok that is something to be pleased about, I guess we will all have to wait and see what the vet says.

Even the vet said last week that it seems to be something that's bothering us more than it is her! I wonder if it's just a characteristic of her eyes as she's getting older. But I'd rather persevere with vets etc til I'm sure. OH keeps saying shall we leave the drops as they're not making any difference, but I'd hate for something to progress and it be something that could have been avoided if I'd continued with the drops.
