Great to hear how happy he is and settling in nicely, having a great life by the sounds of it. Also pleased to hear he's everything you said he would be, that's really nice!

Shona,
Thanks for the update. So glad he's getting on well with new owner and yes, dogs (Well some dogs) really can smell a mole underground!!

Here's what happened with our two only yesterday.
Rianna started digging, paws going like a paddle steamer & turf flying everywhere, Baruska sat about two feet away watching. Eventualy Rianna lost interest and moved away. At that point Bara had a look, but instead of carrying on digging where Rianna had left off she suddenly had her nose to the ground and was following a zig zag trail away from the hole, then (about ten yards away) she starts digging again & bingo within a few seconds she's extracted a mole from the ground.

Plonked her paw on top of it and looked at me like "See how clever I am"
Then she lifted her paw and it scurried away, she never eats them. too well fed at home I guess

thanks Helena,

Thanks locos, I have never heard of dogs doing this before, can you imagine how small a mole must look under a Newfys paw wonder if they can hear them and feel the vibration when they move around, Andrew did say the ground was very soft at the moment.

Shona - Yes probably a combination of smell, sound, & sense (Vibration) Amazing to us 'cos it's all done without visual indicators. The ground is exceptionally soft here as well.
