My dog has his whiskers trimmed when he goes for his hair cut. He has his coat clipped in the summer as he cannot stand the heat. The groomer clips his whiskers at the same time. I don't know if he dislikes this but he certainly likes the short coat. Once his coat is cut he is a different dog and so much more active.

I have just tried to touch his (shortened) whiskers. He was asleep on his usual position, legs in the air. He did not open his eyes, just batted my hand away with his paw

LOL---they pluck their eyebrows or wax them and then they think they look more beautiful then the other kids---

How strange is that----and how like taking a dogs whiskers off----no reason except to make it look 'better' than another dog.

From my experience, a dog that has his whiskers trimmed does not have time to adapt , its instant, they behave in a way before and behave the same way seconds after the whiskers are trimmed.

Now a dog that has a leg/ eye removed , is one that has to adapt to a life without it, but it does not happen in an instant, it comes over time........having has a dog that had an eye removed and also had his whiskers trimmed on occasion, I think I can safely say, I can tell the difference.

You don't want to clip your dogs whiskers fine, but don't presume to tell those who do , they are hindering their dogs because of it it..you have no idea of what you are talking about.

Not always the case, in many cases the dogs whiskers come off with the coat /facial hairwhen grooming for health not looks!!

Kingsley has always had his whiskers trimmed when he has his hair cut - as he has his face shaved down, his whiskers also get shaved to the same length.
It has never affected him.

Now he is blind, can't see, still has his whiskers shaved to the same length as his face hair, but hasn't been affected by this at all. ever.

I will just never understand the fact that people think dogs look better without them, and go out of their way in short coated breeds cut them, beuty must be in the eye of the beholder as I think mine are stunning with their wiskers, and don't think anything can improve on their looks, I would say with most the Boxers are the same. And as dogs can hide the fact that they are in pain so well at times, do you really think theres no chance that dogs can hide other things aswell? We will never fully understand dogs behaviour, and unless we turn ourselves into dogs we will not truelly know how they feel with and without wiskers, and thats why I would never consider cutting my dogs wiskers, although I wouldn't anyway.

I trim Flynn's beard but i'm always careful not to trim his whiskers. I've read they are a sensory 'thing' (for want of a better word) and because the dog cannot speak to me and the whiskers must be there for a reason, I choose to leave them intact.

Yes beauty IS in the eye of the beholder, I fail to understand why anyone would question that????????

Some people think facial hair is fantastic, to others it is a turn off.

Some people like hairy backs, others insist their OH have the "sacs, cracks and backs" treatment.

So it is hardly mind boggling that the same attitudes apply to dogs as well as humans!

We will never undertand how dogs feel about a lot of things, it does not prevent us doing things with them, for them, to them though does it?
