Ooooh Jen - don't just rely on the cold water tap ... afterwards get yourself a bowl of cold water with ice cubes and keep dunking your hand in there.

I was once changing the oil on my bike and so I rode it beforehand to get everything warm. Stupidly, while messing with the sump plug thingy, I held onto the very hot down pipes. That hurt for ages.
