Well done everyone

Today Cain met krlyr's Kiki and Casper again. It went well and Cain didn't try to jump on anyone hardly at all! Casper jumped on Cain a few times and Cain was very tolerant and when he did retaliate, hid warning was very controlled They are sussing each other out and very almost played, I'm sure they will once they know each other better

Also just got back from a 45 min power walk/jog together which we haven't tried before and his heelwork was surprisingly good. I thought he'd pull me over but he found the fast pace just right. He's soooooooo tired now though

Thanks again to Karly for the photos

look, no jumping!

the original mucky pup!

Yes - Cain did very well! Casper seemed very keen to jump on him that day, one of his bad habits can be focusing on a dog too much and I think as it was just the three of them (and Kiki wasn't in a very playful mood), he was pestering Cain a bit more than the last meeting (where Casper had lots of GSDs to play with). But Cain handled it fantastically - very controlled grumbles, communicating very well. After a while you could see that both dogs were really considering having a play but were holding back just a little bit - which resulted in some funny half-attempts, confusing the pair of them, and then upsetting Kiki who seemed to think the pair of them were scrapping She kept running in referree-ing and when there was no fight to split up she decided to just bark at the pair of them

Despite his jumping, it was a good achievement for Casper though, he greeted a lone dog in a strange area whilst on-lead (albiet a couple of training leads joined together) without a giant reaction, I was wondering how he'd react but was hoping that a) he'd recognise Cain and b) seeing Kiki greet him calmly off-lead would help! And the walk back to our cars, I think that must be the first time I've walked down a road with Casper on a short lead with a dog that isn't Kiki! Normally I have to turn tail and avoid approaching dogs to prevent a reaction, so Casper's socialisation is always in off-lead areas and with him on a long-line or off-lead, so even if it was only for a minute, it was nice to feel like I had a normal pair of dogs for once!

Indeed, Casper was great too An experience for them both. On the whole I think they both did really well and I'm sure it'll get even better once they know each other. I can't wait for them to relax enough to play

For a guy we've only had a couple of weeks - I'm impressed with how Layton coped with this (ghastly) weekend.

Get a phonecall about 4pm on Sat, my mum in utter hysterics because she's just been told a dear family friend who essentially has been a substitute-father to me for years is in intensive car and not expected to live long (when nurses in there are relaxing vistiing hours letting anyone come in at any time - you know they're doubting if someone's making it to the next visiting hours slot)... dilemma about what to do, and at such short notice what the heck do we do with the dog? (Hubby couldn't take the time off work since he's got no leave left so it was weekend or nothing)... OK taking the dog with us with my mum, hurried packing session and off we go - no preparation or planning like we'd anticipated for a dog we really haven't had long and didn't want to unsettle like this.

He was fantastic - considering the furthest he's been in the car before was half an hour and he would work himself into a frenzy trying to look out of EVERY back window simultaneously and usually make himself puke in the process... he settled down and coped with a 4 hour last minute car journey (8 hours in all with the round trip) amazingly. Obviously we fitted in breaks for drinks and toilets all round. Then he had to cope with a night in a strange kitchen instead of his own - and with everything being turned a bit upside down while we rushed to the hospital to visit before heading back home again.

It's thrown him a bit coming back - he's forgotten the work we'd been doing getting him to be calm around the cat (which is gutting) but for a 2 week gone rescue guy to cope with that upheaval and not go completely off the rails is quite impressive really.

My dog-fearful stepfather (he got scared witless in the past by his brother's two completely badly trained, acquired on a whim, manic dogs) has now concluded that "that dog's very strange, he doesn't bark or jump at you, and he's really very nice - I think he can come and visit again."

Was going to take the dog to the beach while we were up there (he's a collossal digger so I thought he'd love it) but since it was the local football derby and I didn't fancy fighting with matchday traffic on the way home - we'll have to do that next time we go up, which sadly we're expecting won't be that long to be honest and won't be for pleasant reasons (but it ain't over till it's over I guess).

Poor guy - and we'd planned to spend the weekend walkiesing down by the canal! Still he got a long riverside walk with new lamposts to visit I guess.

Well done everyone So lovely to hear how well they are all progressing

We have had a really good week and just wanted to share. Tuesday morning we met an ESS pup who he has met a couple of times before so i left him off lead to say hello, lots of waggy tails and Ted almost went to chase him (in play) but wasn't quite sure so we carried on walking. Then a bit further on we where playing with his ball and he stopped and looked behind me, there was a lurcher watching us i called Ted to me but he just waited until the lurcher ran off before bringing his ball back still better he stayed where he was than ran up to the other dog.

Wednesday we met a lady who has two english and one gordon setter who Ted gets on with which is always nice and then around the corner we met someone who has recently got a new dog after her previous one passed away last summer. We haven't met them since she has had the new dog and i was so pleased Ted just ignored him completly just sniffed the grass and tried to pull me towards the gate We also met a couple of dogs he has previously kicked off at and he was fine had a little sniff but not even a grumble We also met a gorgeous collie girly who came rushing up to say hello at the end of the walk who normally ignores us in favour of her ball

Friday took him to the vets for his boosters and he was great loved being fussed by the receptionist and the vet who both commented on how nice it was to see a dog happy to see the vet When we came out into the waiting room (which is tiny!) there was a little terrier who had to pass us which but Ted sat and didn't show the slightest interest as the poor dog was dragged past

A real confidence boosting week for both of us
