In our GSD rescue any bitches that come in pregnant(not many thank goodness)are either spayed before the puppies are born if it is safe to do so or all or most of the puppies PTS soon after birth depending on the bitches health
Why are we so very very evil killing lovely little cuddly puppies ?
We have no idea of the breeding behind the puppies so could be brother sister, crossed with god knows what, one or both parents could have HD, OCD, be haemophillia carriers etc etc, the bitch may only be a puppy herself(this is one of the most common & we have had 7 month old bitches handed over in whelp
) or the bitch could be malnourished & or ill etc etc etc
We have had an epileptic bitch literally dumped(tied up to the front gate post) heavily in whelp to allow her puppies to live & more than likely be epileptic as well & then to have to find them forever homes after telling the would be owners about the epilepsy-chances would be around nil for rehoming the puppies let alone the mother probably fitting whilst whelping & nursing the puppies
Sorry but "culling"of this sort is a necessity. We have over 400 + healthy adult dogs go through the rescue every year If we had X breed puppies to rehome, socialise, raise etc how many of the adults would not be able to be taken in & rehomed & would be PTS instead
We have been called heartless by the all breed rescues(especially the Dogs Trust & RSPCA-they whelp & keep all the puppies from their pregnant bitches & thus often don't have room to take in adults & of course puppies are easier to sell than adults) maybe we are, but sorry that is the way things have to be in this very imperfect world we live in
