Castration - recovery time

Can't remember, long time since I castrated a healthy dog so can you tell me how long did it take for a full recovery from a castration, that is one with no added complications.

The stitches Jackie should have disolved after 7 days and he should be completely fine maximum of 10 days later.The empty scrotum though takes about a month or so to completely shrink upwards.

Agree with Steve - about 10 days should see a full recovery. Len's scrotum took a few months to "disappear" though

Agree with the others although our jed had a slight reaction-infection in which his testies or lack thereof swelled just something to look out for it was quite obvious and easily delt with - sorry this is not meant to worry you he still recovered fully within 10 days

So you are saying that once the stitches are dissolved or removed (10 to 14 days) the dog is fully recovered and able to take full exercise and if needed be kennelled?

Yep-should be fine to be excercised normally after 10 days Jackie cause the scrotum is all saggy so the stitches and wound arent being stressed.

Syd's scar ran between his scrotum and his penis. Healed really quickly was out walking by the third day, although no running just sedateish walking off lead.

My male was on pain-killers for 2 days,allowed to have lead walks after 3 & had his stitches out after a week,he only had 3 stitches put in Had to keep him onlead for 10 days but afterwards he was fine

Just to add to this...

Max was castrated on 8 September, he was a bit woozy for about 24 hours but was fine.

Apart from trying to lick the wound (buster collar sorted this out) he was totally himself...

He ate and drank normally, but under the vets instruction we shortened his walks down at night and didn't take him in a morning (just had lots of play on the garden)

He had his stitches out this morning and was totally fine. Except for the visible lack of balls *ahem* he is no different.

His scar/wound is about 1 inch long, between the scrotum and penis and his scrotum has shrunk/shrivelled significantly in 10 days to be almost non-existent now!
