Deleting things...

I probably know the answer

But, if your internet history has been cleared, and cookies/cache deleted, is there any way to get them back?

Kev let his friend on my comp - and he was prob looking at porn, but he has deleted my history, cleared my cache and deleted ALL my cookies. Im pretty annoyed - not that he looked at porn (couldn't care less), but the fact he deleted MY things!!!

All my passwords were stored, all addresses/usernames etc on forms, and all my history for the past 2 weeks

I dont think they're retrievable Heather-they never even make their way into recycle bin so you cant reinstall from there either.I delete all history, temp internet files and cookies everytime i finish on laptop for security anyway and just write anything important down like passwords etc.

I don't write things down, cos it's generally only me who uses it....but I don't mind kev and his mate using it when his mate is around - but to delete all my information is kinda rude

If I password protect my PC, can they just bypass that and get onto it, just not my profile?

If you have got Windows XP couldn't you set them their own account up and then password protect your account so they can't get on yours at all?

Im sure with XP you can set up different accounts for other peeps who may use it or simply password protect the whole thing!

I know which one i'd do...

Yes you can Steve - I have an account, Tim has one and Rhianna even has one too for when she goes on her Cbeebies site. You can protect each individual account with a password too if you want. There is even a guest account which you can have on or off.

Very easily done, creating different accounts and password protecting them. Would certainly do so for security in this case.

Also, make sure that you set up the account as a Limited Account - one without Administrator permissions. This should prevent things installing (especially if they visit unsavory sites).

I have no problem with any site they want to visit, i'm not bothered (I know they also got banned from a chat room for being idiots ), it's just the fact that Kev's mate decided to delete EVERYTHING, rather than just the sites he had visited!

I don't want an account for them on my PC - it's annoyed me that he deleted things, so if I set a password on my comp - would they still be able to get onto it, or would there only be one account on there?

Yes if you only have your account and set a password for that account there is no way they can get onto your computer. If you have other accounts then do passwords for these too because if they get onto an account they could delete the password for your account.
