hmmm, have you had a worm removed by your anti spyware/virus software recently?

I did a google for csrss.exe and brief reading indicates it's either a worm, or part of Windows... soooo....

If you think it was a worm that got removed as above, get rid of the registry entry.

If not, investigate further!

I guess the registry entry would make reference to it residing in a system directory if it were the legit component of 'doze.

Like I mentioned in a previous thread, I know very little about XP...

First off... HERE BE MONSTERS! BE VERY CAREFUL!

There's an app called regedit, which you can use to change stuff in the registry directly.

I DID NOT TELL YOU THAT! Do some research into how to use regedit on the web and save a current copy of it before you do anything.

good luck!

Tom, have a look at this link

link
cos apparently there is also a legitimate file that looks like a worm and you shouldn't remove it

Tom1 That fault you got is supposed to there it's part of windows part of the drivers that make you pc work.
Do NOT delete it or you could be making the problem worse than it is below is what is on my system and mine is upto date

csrss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32
CSRSS.EXE-12B63473.pf C:WINDOWS\prefetch
csrss.exe C:\WINDOWS\Servicepackfiles\i386

Prefetch in XP helps to load your applications faster. Heres what microsoft describes it as:
"Prefetching data is the process whereby data that is expected to be requested is read ahead into the cache. Prefetching boot files and applications decreases the time needed to start Windows XP Professional and start applications."
