Some Mouse pics

Some recent pics of Mouse. He and Trish are doing good.
Headed to her doctors in a few hours, another meds change Oh Joy. (Some issues with mood changes, with her current.)
He's been a busy boy lately with grandkids neices kids and visiting freind.
We are currently working on a new habit of his, if he goes into any yard with a gate as soon as you lose the gate he thinks it is now his, and me or Trish has to allow anyone in it. Fine at home but an be a pain when we go out to places like the local tavern, where he gets to visit everyone drinking or eating outside, that wants to pet him, he will not take food from strangers so it's mainly people that want to pet him.
I have to inform anyone who closes the gate to keep the big dog in, not to or he will not let people in, as long as the gate is open he could care less.
At home does not matter if gate is open or closed, he will not let anyone in the yard until me or wife allow them.

Hi Larry, great photos, pleased to read that Trish is doing well. Like Moyra said, it's so nice to see him, he's such a wonderful creature.

Now about the gate thing. Let's start with the 'home' situation, this for a dog is 'his' property, you and Trish are part of his 'pack' the position of the gate is immaterial, he's gonna protect the three of you and that inevitably means guarding and keeping people out, unless of course one of the pack says it's OK for them to come in.

When he's out and about with you, or even if he were to be out on his own (Although that obviously wouldn't be good) he, being a dog, has a different priority to us humans. In that situation he has to think about how he can get back to his home ground, the place he knows best, so having the gate shut is a worry for him, if you're around he won't want to run off, but at the same time he needs to know he's able to get out if necessary.

So my suggestion is that it's not that he won't let people in when the gate is shut, it's more that he wants to have a clear run back to his 'home' if needed.

Well as I think I've said before I'm no expert, certainly not a dog behaviour proffesional , but I do think that we must always try to see the world through a dogs eyes, we (humans) tend to always think like other humans. It's actually very hard to think like a dog.

Could be a good point Losos.

Ty Sue L, she's doing much better last couple of months, just a lot of mood swings.
