Hello all so next weekend I am going and meeting a 10 month old pup. The owners are rehoming home. She is a German Shepard and boxer mix.
I just want some advice here's a coupl questions:
1. Should we keep her name or can we change it?
2. She is use to kids prev owners have a 2 yr old and 7 yr old, I have a 6 yr old twin 3 yr olds and 1 yr old, best way to introduce all them with out over whelming her?
3. Kennel or no kennel? I plan on getting her own bed in a quit place in the house.
4. Best food choice? Best treat choice?
I'm super nervous and excited. I have always grown up with a German Shepard in the house and now it's been about 7 yrs since I have a had dog. And those dogs were my parents.
I just want the transition for the pup to be good and for her to actually like us. Especially were she is an older pup and has established a family with her prev owners.
Any and all advice is welcome not just what I have asked. Please help.
TIA
I always change a dogs name when I take them on.
Get the kids to greet her quietly till she finds her feet.
I've never kenneled a dog, all mine sleep in the house.
Choice of food and treats is up to you, I feed raw.
Tbh I've never found an older pup to be any different settling in than a youngster.
Thank you both. I am just nervous I want everything to go good. And I want her to be happy and comfortable. Especially having a family the last almost yr.

The picture is of the pup. She's beautiful
Yes, a beautiful dog indeed.
A couple of other points I would add to the sound advice you've been given.
Dogs, like humans, are individuals with their own temperement and quirks. There are good guidelines but there is no "one size fits all".
The GSD is a big dog. If they have a tendancy to jump up they could knock a small child over. Be vigilant and the same old advice you will hear - don't leave the dog alone with the children.
food. Well, I'm not here to promote any brand but ours gets James Wellbeloved dry dog food and treats. And sometimes plain cooked diced chicken breast - he'd dance the Highland Fling for that!
And exercise, lots of it. Do you have good places to walk her?
