Halloween, For It Or Agin It?

I just do not know how to address it. I have always entered into over the years but the about 4 years ago it changed from little tots coming to visit with there little masks to nasty teenagers wanting more than sweets and putting candle grease up our windows or eggs over our cars. The last couple of years the teenagers have gone, married and got kids of their own and moved away. Now we see nobody and end up with tins of sweets nobody wants.

What is your take on it?

Agin it. Never been for it, to be honest.

Seems to me to be a mild form of blackmail - pay up or take the consequences.

I dunno, please take this in the kindest way possible folks...but did you trick or treat as children? Did you get to make or pick out a costume from the store? Did you get to go out and for a few hours walk around ringing doorbells and be rewarded with a bag of goodies that you could make last till almost Thanksgiving?
If you answered no to any of the above it's okay. But in the states if you were even a middle class kid in the 50's, 60's, 70's Halloween was magical! I still love decorating and I dress up too, I dress my dog, my friends and I walk our kids together and munch and talk. Truth to tell for me it's perhaps my favorite holiday even now.

All the local children used to come round at one time, but it seems to have stopped now, they were all dressed up and had lanterns etc and I used to give sweets out. Like Moyra I ended up with sweets and no takers, so I don't bother now.

I liken it to some kind of sinister begging. Don't remember any of that sort of thing as a child. Quite happy to make do with Xmas (which I love). Also, to be honest, any person who came all the way out to my home on a cold winter evening would deserve a medal never mind a few sweeties!!

We never really 'did' Halloween in those far off days did we gordon, but it was Penny For The Guy as Bonfire Night was a bigger thing then wasn't it.

Agin.
I don't even remember knowing what Halloween was when I was a child.
To me it is another thing that has crossed the "pond"

Luckily it is unlikely to ever reach these shores!

Same here, it was never something we did as kids, it's blown across the pond I think .
