Funny isn't it! Remus has been with us a couple of months now and Tonks is very relaxed about being in charge...she's not bothered if he waits near her while she finishes her food, she's not bothered about the boring old bones and chew toys around the house and even lets him take one out of her mouth...but he is not allowed near her Dad's feet when she is licking them! Remus made that mistake a couple of times in the first couple of weeks....never again. Sometimes he'll go and have a look once she's finished and looks at her as if to say ' are you mad!?' He just can't see the attraction!

Maybe its her way of grooming and caring !! Bless !!PS: we seem to share same name but different spelling very unusual .

I should take a pic of her face when she does it one day....pure bliss, eyes shut ears down and relaxed...it's her best thing.

I used to enjoy my boxer doing it, it tickled but was relaxing, makes me sound a weirdo i know.!

Holly does not give kisses, she loves everyone but she does not do kisses. She does like to lick my feet and arms though. Lola my sisters puppy likes to give kisses, she also cleans ears out, oh and kisses other dogs as well.

When you meet wolves, if they feel relaxed with you they will always try their best to lick your mouth. This is to ascertain what you are - prey or carnivore - in other words, what have you been eating. God help you if you're a veggie 'cos you instantly become PREY !!!

Only joking - but first and foremost, that is why our dogs lick our mouths - to try and sort out our status, based on what we have been eating. Secondly, canids and other species too will lick their parents' mouths to encourage them to regurgitate a meal for them - dogs and wolves do this of course. So with puppies, it will be more a case of them begging for a meal from us, than trying to establish who you are and what your status is.

Either way, IMO it is absolutely disgusting to allow dogs to lick your mouth!! I have got some lovely photographs of me and a wolf who belonged to someone we knew. I am in her enclosure and she is jumping at me with her massive paws on my shoulders desperately trying to snog me!! I have got my mouth firmly clamped shut and my neck stretched up desperately trying to not let her lick my mouth, whilst at the same time not wanting to antagonise her! She weighed nearly 200 lbs and her head was bigger than mine, so I thought it prudent not to be too robust with the clamping!! Once she had sampled my breath and had a good old lick, then we were friends and we could get on with the whole socialising stuff and having a good time together!
