Can ticks burrow under skin?

jake has a wee lump on his side, i found it this morning and got my dad to look at it. he thinks its a tick that has burrowed under his skin. he says they do this, but ive never heard of this so can they?? my aunts dog used to get ticks all the time coz they live in an area with loads, but his always used to stay attached to the skin and she would pull them off with tweezers. its got me worried. its very small, but looks a bit red. any ideas what else it could be?

I've never heard of the whole tick burying itself under the skin.
It is possible that it is the head of a tick that has been knocked off (e.g. by Jake scratching).

If you're unsure, get your vet to check it out.

It could be a bite or a sting from something, the fact that it is red could mean theres a wee bit infection going on too...ticks don't go all the way in under the skin, the male tick is pink and only attatch in the off chance of finding a mate, the females are the feeders, the ones that swell...maybe he has had a tick and knocked off the body and the head is still inside, best getting it checked

he is booked in for 10 past 2, but its one of those ones where you just need to sit and wait for a free one to come up. dont think the woman was happy coz she wanted to give me an appointment for tuesday but he is getting neutured on tuesday so cant. wouldve maybe got them done at the same time but he isnt getting neutured at the vets, its getting done at the sspca. last time i waited when they wanted to give me an appointment for another day my baby lacey died, so im refusing to do that again. fingers crossed its nothing. maybe im worrying too much but its better to be safe than sorry.
