For CaniX, all dogs MUST be on leads. The only style of muzzle is the greyhound style one (so dogs can still pant). The idea is that the dogs runs in front if possible. A harness can be worn so that the dogs pull the owner. There are several groups according to the age of the human, and number of dogs (2 max). There is 2.5km, 5km and 'have a go.'
The dogs don't generally fight as there are staggered starts, with around 15 seconds in between. It then takes around 2 hours after all the runners are in for the times to be calculated. There is Burns dog food for the winners, with a year supply at the end of the season for class winners.
There's an absolutely brilliant atmosphere at events, with many camping (although that's not for me, the travellodges are fine!), and the regulars all begin to recognise each other, although mostly by the dogs names!
All breeds can take part as long - my border terrier cross parson russell loves it; he's he one that tries to howl along with the huskies - unsuccessfully.
Any other questions about CaniX and I'll try and answer them!
