Whats wrong with people

We don't usually meet many ''silly'' dog owners, but recently I seem to have met a few

Today Pat couldn't come on our walk as he had to go somewhere so Foster son and I decided to go it alone. Pat dropped us off near our destination (Babbs Mill Nature Centre) and we said we would catch a bus back home.

We had a great couple of hours, in the water, playing football and throwing the balls.
It wasn't crowded as it was light drizzle so the best time for a great day IMO. One chap with a GSD did ask if ''they ok with other dogs'' to which I said yes the girls are but keep him away from my male who prefers to be left alone, and as good as gold thats exactly what he did.
As we were heading back I spotted in the distance 2 guys fishing and another watching with a off lead SBT, so I popped Bruce's lead on and continued walking, when suddenly the SBT comes tanking over at full speed, I moved Bruce to one side so it got a greeting from the girls, the guy shouts ''He's OK he's friendly'' so I shouted back...Im sure he is but my Male doesn't like his space invaded by other dogs, recalled SBT but a dirty look
Then we turn to the last park of the lake to head to the bus stop and a couple of ladies walking a terrier X is walking towards us, so Bruce's lead is popped on, now they both saw me do this, and I deliberately moved him to the other side of me.......so she walks straight for me with her dog....I move closer to the lake now Im walking on a sloped bank...so she carries on walking towards me...grinning like a cheshire cat and say's .......He only wants to say HIYA to your dog ...so why not say Hiya to the 3 walking without a lead..........helllllllllllllllloooooooooooooo I said...now almost in the lake.....can you move your dog please, he doesn't like dogs in his face especially other males.........I nearly burst out laughing when she said............why FS being smartie pants said.........we don't know why he won't tell us I had to smile

I think Im getting Bruce a jacket with....please do not come in my space.......because popping his lead on sure aint working

It's so annoying isn't it. I'm training Rosie to ignore other dogs and people we pass while she's on lead because she can be very excitable wanting everyone and everything to fuss her, but it's virtually impossible to get them to ignore her.

It's going well, but I get so frustrated when a dog runs over, or she gets fussed to high heaven while she's jumping up at people - it really does slow the training down.

Today we were walking in a very quiet spot when a lady with two dogs, a retriever (on lead) and a BMD (off lead) came head on. Rosie was on lead and doing well at ignoring. The BMD starts trotting over and the lady said, 'watch out, he doesn't like little dogs'. Picked my girl up and said 'put him on a flaming lead then' and carried on our way. Just how stupid can people be??

Breathe - rant over!!

I have every sympathy with your problem and it can make a lovely walk so stressful can't it.

There just seem to be so many people around with no common sense - I just hate that laughing "it's alright, he only wants to play", or whatever; yes, but my dog doesn't and the fact that he is on a lead should tell you something.

You have my sympathy. I tend to practice defensive dog walking these days (i.e I avoid dogs if I am not sure they are OK and if that fails I try to block them from hassling or threatening mine) after suffering innumerable problems with other peoples' out of control and impolite, or downright aggressive dogs.

The number of people that I carefully avoid and walk away from, due to seeing how their dogs are interacting with others and not wanting to inflict that on mine, that then bloomin' well walk directly AT you however often you change direction "cos he wants to play/say hallo to yours" i.e. jump all over them, get in their face, hump them, growl at them, stand over them, glare at them etc etc

Brierley I so agree with you. If YOUR dog has a problem with other dogs it is YOUR responsibility to keep it under control, not allow it to approach targets and expect their owners to prevent your dog's aggression!!

Bruce didn't used to have a problem, but over years we have had a times walking with others and their dog have just not left him alone, as a younger dog he put up with it, now he snaps...I know its only air and a ''warning'' but I would rather people wouldn't put him in the situation where he feels he needs to ''warn''
Its down to me to keep him steady and by popping his lead on he knows to walk by and leave.
There was a time when I didn't have to pop his lead on he would just lie down, but we have had a couple of times where strange dogs have run at him so thats upset him.
Its something I want to nip in the bud, but when people ''insist'' on walking right up to him with their dog, it makes ''nipping in the bud'' a long job

Aww yeah people just dont take the hint
I mean you nearly in a lake!!!

I see that all the time, I try and keep Mia calm, I turn around and walk away before she starts going mental
People seem to change their path just to try and come over to us
Mia starts kicking off, so now Im trying to drag her away
and still the people are heading over to see us!!

another 1/2 inch and I would of been paddling, thankfully he wasn't kicking off....just a warning grumble. Its the ''but mine is friendly'' that kills me, when what they mean is ''he just wants to sniff and jump all over yours''......... and Im there thinking....great let him sniff and jump on the girls then, they won't mind...Bruce would

Glad you clarified that...I was going to ask if Bruce has had to put up with it a lot over the years. I remember the walks we came with you on when I brought Zane, Yiannis and Ellie separately. Bruce was fine with all of them as I recall. Although they didn't run at him head on and didn't try to pinch his ball either.

Maybe I'm lucky - It's rare that I have problems with anyone really when I'm out with the dogs but other than when I'm with Yiannis, people tend to avoid me if I have Zane or Jenzi with me and I know it's purely down to their appearance. They all have their own doggy friends though that they can socialise with so I'm not so bothered anymore if they never get to meet anymore dogs when out and about. People (& their dogs) usually avoid us before I have chance to say anything though.

Yeah, the 'he just wants to play' always gets me
Especially when quite often they cant really read their dogs at all and actually their dogs are NOT just wanting to play
