Another Hector Update.

well its been 3 weeks since he had his last B12 jab and the symtoms are returning

i phoned the vet and i've got to go back to the 2 weekly jabs again.

the vet seems to think he could be on them for life now, which is fine by me.

she did mention a endoscopy to see what is going on but the outcome could still be the same, B12 jabs, so i'm not going down that route.

it could shorten his life so i'll enjoy him whilst i can.

Julie i am really sorry, it isnt more positive for h.
I don't blame you, whats the point for it just to be confirmed as life time.
If it helps tobs on life time meds for 2 things.
On the positive side at least with the jabs you know they are doing him the world of good.
Does it make that much difference to his life span? i take it the b12 gives him everything he needs, so why a shorter life?

it all points to a diseased intestine. the body has lost the ability to absorb B12. this is not genetic, just his make up. but other complications could set in later on which could shorten his life.

we cannot know wether this happened before or after the Bloat, but the Bloat could have caused more damage and made things worse.

at least the b12 will keep him stable and its not expensive.

tablets wont be absorbed so jabs will continue.

Just thinking, bear with me.....
If he was ok before the bloat, and ? damagge was done from that point, then i would hope no more damge can be done.
Ok he needs the b12 because of it, is there any way of finding out other than tests, if it was the reason for the bloat?
Might give you a clearly outlook for him.
What was he like before the bloat...the same?

he wasnt ok before the Bloat. he was slowly losing weight over a 7-8 month period beforehand and as much as i told my vet they dismissed it at the time, he also was eating poo, refusing food, depressed, no coat, wind, frequent loose poos.

even if he had an endoscope the diagnosis would be the same, B12 as his small intestine has been damaged and he lost the ability to absorb nutrients.

my vet spoke to a digestive specialist about Hector and these were the options and outcomes.

forgot to add that a 3 month exclusion diet, without the B12 was mentioned, but the way he is the vet has turned it down as in that time he could Bloat again and we would lose him.
