German Shepherd - Breeding

Before I ask, I just want to make it clear that I'm not switching goal posts so to speak and as much as I love GSDs, I don't want to breed them (rather leave that to the professionals
I'm asking as I have to write a bit in one of my assignments regards to record keeping and why I would choose a particular pairing etc. But in order for me to do that, I need to know what I'm looking at. We were given an example stud book for fell ponies, but since the whole class is doing that, I'd rather do something that I truely love and have a little knowledge regarding genetic diseases. So, any initial help with this would make me eternally grateful

So, my query is this:

I've been looking at pedigrees, and I'm not sure what some of the terms mean, so is there anyone here that is willing to help please?

I've cut and pasted this directly off the pedigree database..

V 3 Nikonis Colin
2003
AD 01626001
HD-SV: HD a-normal (a1)

SCHH3
VA1 (CHN) Whisky vom Bierstadter Hof
2000
SZ 2062851
HD-SV: HD a-normal (a1)
Also, how do you know about a dam or a sire having a genetic disease? Is there anything in the stud books that mentions it, or do you have to rely on the society and your friends for that kind of information?

Thanks in advance

I would contact the breed clubs, they would be able to send you a lot of information and they would likely have a health/breeding section on the website too.

The kennel club could help too.
