TENS machine - great.

Just got a new TENS machine for my back/hip pain. I had one a few years ago but it gave up the ghost a while back. Mt friend has just given me a brand new one that she bought and never even undid the box. Just realised how much I missed the other one. If you have pain and have never used a TENS I can really recommend it.

TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, you put two little pads at either side of the painful area and the machine sends small electrical stimuli through the pads, it kids your brain that you don't have any pain as your brain is focusing on the electrical impulses. Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant.

I used one in my first labour but it didn't seem to be doing anything at all - then the nurse discovered there was no batteries in it - took her about another 45 mins to come back with the batteries

Sounds fantastic - wouldn't mind getting my paws on one - are they expensive?

Me too, for the same thing!

NHS gave me a brand new one, for as long as I want!
I got it on Monday

I works for me on my back/hips, which is great!

But I know they don't work at all for some people!

Not too expensive actually, they range from about £20 to just over £40 depending on how much you want to pay. Some physio departments loan them out.
