Dogs & Farmland

Not trying to re-open a thread more a word of warning. Take the greatest of care when walking your dogs on farmland even if you are on a footpath when your dog will, of course, be on a lead. There is no reason why animals should not be grazing in a field containing a footpath and there are a surprising number of people and dogs killed and injured every year particularly by cattle who may be docile for most of the time but when young are around become very aggressive and see a dog as a danger to their offspring.

If possible avoid farms that have grazing animals and stick to the arable ones, but remember when crossing a field of growing vegetables that dogs peeing on cabbages is not desirable, have no trouble stopping mine doing that but I do have trouble stopping them eating them.

Couldn't agree more Jackie!!! As we know its not worth risking your dogs life.
To make a point ....about 4 years ago a farmers shepp were being worried by an unknown dog.The farmer decided to lay a trap so used one of his dead sheep as bait.A gent with an elkhound was walking nearby when the elk entered the field and ran towards the farmer in true elkhound style to greet him.The farmer shot the dog head on killing it instantly. This is a true story...a warning to all.
