Home insurance

For the last week I've spent hours comparing contents & building cover as mine runs out at end of month. After much pondering I thought I'd made a decision.......Barclays offered more or less the same cover as mine (more than - who wanted £495 and odd pence) for £258 and odd pence. THEN I googled Barclays insurance reviews, although there were not many reviews, they were all bad.....all stating that they had been waiting months for claims to be sorted.

Soooo, do any of you know anything about Barclays home insurance...or do you know of insurers who in your opinion are reasonable price wise and good if you have to claim.

Thank you, any info much appreciated.

I am with MoreThan for buildings, contents and travel insurance (my car is a company one but when I had my own they dig my car too).

Only ever had to make one claim when my old car was nicked and they were brill and very fast and I had the cheque the same day the police found my car, they fixed everything as new.

I agree that morethan are really good when you have to claim SB, I've been with them for years, but I just think that nearly £500 is an awful lot when you compare with other companies. It's the fear factor of going with a different company that is making me dither.

I know Hev!!!! Its a three bed semi in yorkshire!!!!!!!
The amount has just gone up and up each year and I meant to change last year but you know how it goes....

Its a good policy with all add ons and a small excess (£50), but its so expensive when I look at others. I've not claimed for over 5 years, so do I just go with Barclays which is a very similar cover snd just hope I don't have to claim and find out that all the bad reviews are true

Who are you with if you dont mind me asking.

Because we're over 50 (well over!) we're with Castle Cover - they're brokers I suppose, who each year find the best deal. Feel sorry for the company they put us with this year - for the first time ever we had to make a claim (flooded cellar). Can't fault them - they arranged the emptying out and drying out of the cellar, have settled our contents claim with no argument, and also paid us an extra £100 for all the electricity used by the driers.
