Puppy book recommendations please

Hello,

As part of my ongoing research I would like to read up on the whole "getting a puppy" fiasco. To include what to look for when getting one, what on earth to do with it in the first few days, early training, innoculations and how long to keep it in....basically EVERYTHING I could possibly want or need to know. As you may gather, the whole thing fills me with fear as I would hate to do something wrong in the early days. I need an idiots guide. Possibly a training book could be separate to a "new puppy" book, whatever you have found useful id love to know about.

Before and After Getting Your Puppy (except the bite inhibition stuff, even he's changed his mind on that I've heard)

The Puppy Primer

The Perfect Puppy

And you might want to consider books which are not puppy specific such as The Culture Clash

Before and After getting your puppy by Ian Dunbar
The perfect Puppy by Gwen Bailey
The Doglopaedia by J M Evans and K White
Don't Shoot the Dog by Karen Pryor
The Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson
Control Unleashed the Puppy Programme by Leslie McDevitt
How to behave so your dog behaves by Dr Sophia Yin

Not all of the above are specifially for puppies, however they do not stay puppies for long so the above collection I think can give you an idea of how dogs think and how to avoid problems rather than cure them.

Training is tough enough, but remedial training is the hardest of all.

HTH

At the risk of hijacking the thread, what does he now recommend?

The Culture Clash for sure for a training book... I've never bought a "puppy" specific book, so I have no idea what to recommend on that end...

In the book he recommends teaching bite inhibition by allowing the pup to bite and work on teaching the pup to gradually decrease the intensity og bite.

I have been told that he now advocates the normal techniques applied (squeal and ignore)
