Gabby - 4 year old Black Lurcher

GABBY

Meet dear Gabby. She is a little black greyhound x lurcher girl who is approx. 4 years old. Gabby was taken in by Kerry Greyhounds UK as a stray and homed 2 years ago, but has sadly come back to us as she is no longer suited to the home. She is now looking for her new forever sofa. Gabby is a petite girl at 23” to the shoulder with a beautifully sleek, shiny black coat.

~ Personality ~
Gabby has found the sudden change in situation from home to kennel quite upsetting, and it is taking her a little while to re-adjust. She has only been with us for about a week, and we hope she will settle in and relax a bit more in the next week or two. She has shown herself to be a very sweet natured, people centric hound who just wants to be petted and loved. She is currently living up to her namesake and likes everyone to know how she feels!

~ Other Animals ~
Gabby was living with another male greyhound in her previous home, and they got on beautifully together. She can find over exuberant or in-your-face dogs quite bothersome, and will tell them off. Gabby likes to be respected and not feel threatened, and if the other dog gives her her space, they get on like a house on fire. She is currently being paired on her walks with one of our big, easy going male hounds, Oscar, and they are getting on great. Gabby walks well on the lead and really enjoys getting out of her kennel.

~ In the Home ~
Gabby has lived in a home for 2 years previous to coming back to us, and was generally well behaved in the house. She was fully housetrained, didn’t counter surf and was well used to all the sights and sounds of a home. She should have no real trouble re-adjusting back into the comforts of the home life, and will likely welcome a sofa with big open paws. She does suffer from separation anxiety, however, so new owners will need to be relatively firm in her training and set boundaries from day 1 to prevent her from becoming too clingy. If left alone for any period of time she gets distressed and will become destructive. This is something that could be worked on provided new owners are aware and prepared for this issue from the start.

Gabby would be ideally suited to a retired couple who want a mannered dog to walk with and to love. Gabby has oodles of loyal companionship to offer to whoever opens their arms for her, she just needs the right kind of home to suit her. This girl needs a home without children as if she is suddenly startled, e.g. when asleep, she may react without thinking. She has no problem meeting children when out and about, however, and has lived with them before. She could live with another male dog provided they were laid back and calm, though since she loves people so much, Gabby would be just as happy as an only dog provided she was not left alone for periods of time.

~ Where Am I? ~
Gabby is currently in kennels in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to meet and collect her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Gabby is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue.

If you are interested in adopting or short-term fostering Gabby, please email me (Tam) for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24hrs. Thanks!

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe. We can look after approximately 30 greyhounds at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and given a full veterinary check before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Central Europe and the USA.

If interested in one of our hounds, please EMAIL me for our adoption application form and information pack. Once you have filled in and returned the application form, we will then contact you via phone or email to discuss adopting one of our hounds in more detail.

If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. I can be contacted through the following email:

Emails are usually replied to within 24hrs.

Thank you.
