Vultures at a funeral

Not cold in her grave yet but the local biddies are already around virtually demanding my wife's clothes/jewellery/personal bits and pieces.
"Oh but surely your girls would never want them, too old fashioned/wrong size" etc etc!
"She always meant for me to have that"
"She'd want her friends to have this"

Unbelievable.

I am so so sorry for your loss and for the extra stress these heartless people are putting on you.

I despair of people sometimes I really do xx

Do you live rural?
Or in town?

I am so sorry about your loss and I really cannot understand some people. They seem to have no regard for your feelings whatsoever. I hope you haven't given them anything.

This is a rural community - and funeral mad like the rest of the country.Didn't know 1/4 of the people there.
I've been COMPLETELY rude to these old dears and shunted them out the door with unseemly haste (emptyhanded!)
Mary was ill for some time and we'd discussed at length and in detail what she'd wanted to happen once she was gone. While MY thing is the animals, hers was the St Vincent de Paul. She was revolted by the thought of her bits and bobs being pawed over by the locals and most was despatched via the kids to Dublin charity shops.

I am so sorry for your loss. It took me months to get the courage to sort out my son`s personal things. In the end, I kept a lot - his dressing gown is still on the back of the bathroom door and his shoes are in his room.
I found I liked to have physical things around to remind me.
What is important is how YOU feel about her things. Take your time, and don`t be pushed.
Her things are personal to her - not objects to be scavenged. In your place, I`d diplomatically tell people that I`ll get back to them when the pain is less.
X

So glad they didn't get anything. Vultures indeed.
