Italian Spinone in rescue..

I was shocked to when I heard, as its so rare for this breed to find it ways into rescue. Many tears has a two year old blide girl up for rehoming.. Yet its no way a Italian Spinone, wrong head and colour..Sad when rescues dont have basic breed knowledge.

Yes they must be uncommon coming into rescue as I know of someone in Norfolk who wanted one after her Spinone died and she had to travel all the way to Scotland to get him. Lovely dog though-such nice natures the ones we've met.

Some rescues aren't particular breed-orientated - Many Tears deals with many different breeds and dogs and doesn't specialise in one breed so what's the harm in them not being 100% accurate? If you think it's a big deal then contact them so they can change it, they've done the same with other breeds in the past when people have suggested they may be slightly wrong in their descriptions. I personally couldn't tell you what an Italian Spinone looks like without googling for a photo. Many Tears take in lots of puppyfarm/BYB dogs so maybe it came from a breeder of Italian Spinones who was telling a porky.

it does annoy me sometimes, more on progams like CM and animal cops, when they get the dogs wrong.. think when you are appealing to that many members of the public, basic breed knowledge should be a must.

Had to go and have a look, as my sister has had Spins for years. You are right, the poor blind girl on Many Tears isn't a Spinone, but looks more like a GWPx to me.

I do hope she finds a good home soon, as well as all the other dogs on the site. It is heartbreaking how many are seeking new homes.

does it really matter what the dog is? It may be a Spin, not a very well bred one. Im sure MT and the like get thousands of dogs in, so the odd breed they get wrong can be forgiven dontcha think?

The police breed descriptions were always the best!

'A Turner and Hooch dog'= Dogue de Bordeaux
'Japanese Corgi' = Sable/ white Akita
'Pekingese X Westie' = Japanese Chin

Obviously the last one is a bit unusual, I just loved the westie thrown in to explain the white colouring!
In the grand scheme of things it probably doesn't matter if the breed is wrong sometimes although it could cause problems in alerting the correct breed rescue (although I'm not sure if MT refer to specific rescues?) It just seems odd not to know what breeds are what if you work with dogs on a daily basis.
(Maybe it's because all pedigree breeds are bad)

But if Italian Spinones come into rescue only very rarely then it's not a breed they see on a daily basis to recognise whether a dog is one or not. As said, I'm sure they'll appreciate input from someone with the time to ID every individual dog they have but I'm sure sure the dog's welfare, rather than it's label, is their priority

totally agree, if a little white lie helps a dog then, so long as the dog is carefully homed, then whats the problem!?
