The Humane Society I volunteer at in Ohio (Union County Humane Society) is pretty full right now. It's that summer-time over-flow that all the shelters are experiencing. Pregnant dogs, puppies, and senior dogs. We are out in the country so lots of stray hounds and bully breed mixes (probably with hound or lab in them). Some have waited for months or even over a year for adoption. : (
If anyone is interested, here are some of the long-time residents:
Marley the Bully Breed mix, only around 2-years-old and sometimes reserved with people, but a good boy. Very strong.
Luci the lab mix female. Around 2-years-old. Best without other dogs but great with people.
Orpheus the 1-year-old Bully Breed mix is not only stunningly handsome, but very sweet, energetic, and, with time to decompress, likely good with other dogs. Poor guy keeps getting over-looked despite his awesomeness!
Ramone is a 1-3 year-old male Bully Breed mix, very handsome, but needs to be an only dog so has been over-looked.
Ribeye the 3-year-old Bully Breed mix.He is a wonderful dog, just over-looked, probably because he is black and a bully breed. Good with other dogs if introduced properly and good with people. Loves to play and go on walks.
Star, a 1-year-old female Dalmatian mix. Best without kids or other dogs, but a sweet, energetic, intelligent girl. She was apparently abused when young and so can be reserved with strangers, but with time to trust is amazing.
This is primarily a UK forum so maybe not your best target audience.
But good luck with your endeavours. As it happens, ours is a rescue dog, a very happy one - and I'm stuck with the best dog in the universe...........
Thank you. It's a risk you take. He could have been mean and nasty growling biting beast. But put the commitment in and reap the rewards. We got a gem.
