Do I laugh or get annoyed

Out walking Dougal this evening, going up the hill met this young fella and his pals coming down. With them, this lovely little collie mix bitch puppy, not more than 3/4 months. Cute as pie. Anyway, usual thing with Dougal, yell he's okay with other dogs. Fella picks up little dog, yells back, she will go for him!

As I approach I laugh and say don't be silly, he looks at me horrified and says, no...really, she will go for him!

Several things came to mind but I just walked away with Dougal in tow.

Really, it was the little dog I felt sorry for, she's going to grow up dog aggressive, I can just see it.

Yep I'm sure she will, self fulfilling prophecy!

I used to tell people that Tonks was ok with other dogs but now i don't tell them in advance because i think acting nieve is better. e.g, if they grab thier dogs and put them on lead when they see Tonks and I coming, I say "oh isn't yours friendly?" (really inocent like) they then get embarressed for assuming the worst.

I ment a bloke today with a terrier and he marched up to Tonks and pointed an umbrella at her and said " is she ok", he had sped up to leave his dog behind. I said " yeah she's fine thanks how is yoru dog" , forcing him to ask what he really wanted "is she agressive with dogs".

We have this happen when they see us with three dogs...we say they are fine, but we still get people picking thier dogs up.

It annoys me as surely they want to socialise thier dogs, especially one so young Often I say to Pat...what's the point of that, it will never get to meet other dogs doing that....Pat just shrugs his shoulders.

LOL I do this too now!! And when they see how clever Ben is and how gentle they say to me "Where did you get him trained!" like he's a trained monkey

A trained MOnkey? How odd?!

We met a dog recently, think it was a N.I., with a woman with an unbelievable amount of make up on for a dog walk. The dog was a young/adolescent male and she had him on lead on a tiny tiny choke chain. Tonks and i walked past and the dog leaned out to sniff her so she went to say hello, it growled and snapped at her (not seriously agressive just bolshy boy), he nipped her cheek and the woman freeked pulling him away - with no luck!

I just said "off" Tonks, (in a really friendly tone as I always do) and she just pottered off looking at the dog as if to say, what was all that for! The lady said "wow that's one really well trained dog!".

There was so much i could say and so much adivce i could give, and i think she would have been interested.....but i just didn't know where to start!

been pretty lucky with the dogs around here. (touches wood) there a JR who just flies at all the dogs but we walk a different way from him. but the owner has a long lead which gets knotted up all over the place.he needs some decent training. not just allowed to run riot snapping and barking all all n sundry.

We had a lady who started coming to classes recently with a fab collie pup. The woman seemed really nervous and said that the dog was dog aggressive, it was only about 15 weeks so i didn't belive it but listenend and watched.

After a while i went back to her asked if she realised that she tensed up and pulled the lead high and tight every time her dog looked at another dog or moved towards one, and explained that this would be sensed by the dog etc etc and that her dog was completely relaxed until she tensed up (all explained in the nicest possibly way )

The lady laughed and said she hadn't realised and all that i had said made sence and since then she has made a real effort to be calm and let the dog approach other dogs and say hello. They have both done really well and it's really nice when people listen, understand and put it in to practice! Wish all dog owners were like that !

I usually get the people that insist on their dog meeting Fido even when i say he is not good with other dogs. I can read him pretty well now so i know what dogs he likes and what dogs he doesn't but they still insist on them meeting then act all surprised when Fido either hides behind me or snaps at the dog.
The woman we got him off was one of these people that picked him up as a puppy because he was attacked by a stray when he was 6 weeks

know what you mean ,ours love a puppy . i allways ,shout ,they are fine they love puppies (which they do ) we have walked with lots of people ,with new puppies ,so they are used to them . i wouldnt dream of ,saying that ,if i wasnt certain its so the worst thing .you can do .not to let them ,meet all the dogs they can . allso they miss out so much ,when we got dylan ,i used to hand him ,to as many people ,as i could ( people we new ), we walk with a lady ,who has collies and a young pup ,when we first saw her ,she came over ,and handed him to us both to hold ,as he now runs round ,with our two ,plays lovely ( so cute ). i remember ,when we went to ,training class ,with dylan ,when the new pups came ,the trainer ,would come and sit along side us ,and pass them ,to both men women and kids ,so they got used to diffrent people
