Tyler - 18 month old Staffie x Whippet with Hope Rescue

Tyler is a 18 month old staff cross and is currently on foster in Dorset.

The Tyler Fact File
Dog status: Good, likes to play
Cat status: Had initial cat test when in kennels and was ok. Not living with cats in foster.
Child status: Tyler needs to work on his self control and excitement so would be best with older children of 12 plus only
House training: Perfect
Home alone: Happy to be left for short periods, suitable for part time workers
Basic training: Does a beautiful ‘sit’, knows ‘off’ and ‘on your bed’. Beginning work on other basics such as recall.
Special skill: Collecting things and taking them to his bed!

Tyler is a happy go lucky sort of a dog. He has come out of a long stay in kennels and has slotted right in to his foster home showing how adaptable he is. He still has a few things that need a tweak here and there but in general he is a happy, loving, fun-to-be-around kind of guy.

Tyler loves other dogs and likes to play; his play can be a little OTT so as it stands currently we feel he may be best rehomed as the only dog or with robust companions as playmates. He would not be suited to living with elderly or frail dogs. Tyler is good with dogs he meets out on his walks.

Tyler is not in foster care with cats but he has met a neighbours very confident cat and was not overly excited. He also passed an on lead cat test in kennels. However, we do feel he would chase a nervous or excited cat. He may be able to be rehomed with confident cats if introduced correctly. He is currently living with rats who he is fine with (In fact he play bows at the cage and barks to get them to play with him!).

Tyler is happy to be left for short periods without distress or being destructive, his foster carers reported 'the only damage was a big warm dent in the middle of our bed where we suspect he spent the whole time asleep!'.

There are a couple of things that are still being worked on with Tyler. He can mouth when he is excited and struggles to deal with rushes of adrenalin and excitement such as when he gets back from a walk (or even if he sees the bed being made and the sheets flying around!). His foster home are working on helping him to be more relaxed and how to deal with his excitement. For this reason we will not rehome him with children under the age of 12.

He has not spent time with young children but he has shown signs out and about that he finds them intimidating if they are running around or being noisy. He may not have been socialised with young children and the hustle and bustle that accompanies them. This is something he will need to be exposed to gradually and enjoy positive, fun experiences around them to reduce his worry and help him to feel confident and happy in the company of younger children.

Tyler is also working on learning to swap items he has in his mouth such as his toys or a stray shoe he may have picked up.

All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK.
