How do I stop dog from licking his muzzle

Coles has inflammation and open sores on the left side of his Muzzle. The sores are always bleeding. He is wearing a buster collar (has inflammation in other places) but the clever boy is using this to rub it against the side of his muzzle. Everyday for the last two weeks it has been bleeding. I really need these sores to clear up but they won’t when he keeps licking there.

I posted for advice about cleaning and healing solutions. I am at the moment using hibiscrub, which will help stop any infection but it is not clearing up.

I am at my wits end as to what to do. He is so miserable at the moment and I feel really sorry for him.

Please can anyone recommend what to do?

I know there are anti-lick strips but I doubt you could use them on open sores. Why not ask your vet?

I've just rang the vets and as I thought they would say, theres nothing that can be done other than to keep using hibiscrub on it. They did ask could I bring him to the vets but theres no point because its not infected.

Poor guy is licking as it is so itchy and sore, the hibiscrub may clean the area but it will not relieve it, have you tried using Aloe Very Jelly on top once you have cleaned it?

This is cooling and soothing.

research manuka honey, thats supposed to be good for sores.

can you put extra padding on the muzzle somehow?

Unfortunately this may make him lick his muzzle more............

Thanks for the link Claire. Those collars look really good. I will be buying him one. I have been thinking about getting him a new collar instead of using the plastic buster collars, as he needs to use these on a regular basis.

I have been using Dermacton Cream which is helping but i've just run out. so going to order some more and also I've order the sprays you recommended to me on another thread. Thanks for the advice.
