The muppets are out today

OMG what is is about people who walk their dogs on their days off and just don't chill out and relax. Popped the dogs down to the local woods for a a quick run, or in Megs case a wallow in the stream chewing sticks and have come back hopping mad.

First of all bumped into a very serious man with a labrador walking in military precision, the lab off lead but glued to his owners leg, looking up at him as they walked through the woods, where is the enjoyment of going to the woods for that dog !!!!! I am all for dogs behaving, but my goodness that is extreme, he said as we passed he doesn't like to play, both of mine were back on their leads so they didn't just go into play mode, I thought I bet he doesn't get a chance

Walked down to an open spot where there is a stream and Mack can zoom around while Meg splashes. I am sat on a footbridge above stream , watching them both when a cute little jack Russell appears, very friendly, no one insight. Mack goes up to it and they are both zooming around, having a great time, A good two minutes had passed still no owner so I manage to get hold of him and see that his address is fairly close so decide to walk up that way, just incase he has gotten out. Another five minutes has passed when this very angry lady comes up to me, and starts raving about I should keep that beast(Mack) away from her dog as he is only little. He runs off sometimes when she lets him offlead she said , and he would of come back sooner if we hadn't of been playing with him. I never even heard her call him at all. I see red and ask if this dog is hers , where has she been, because he has been with me for almost ten minutes. I then went on to tell her that Mack is not dangerous, he is under control (most of the time) and it isn't my dog that is off wandering!! The poor dog she grabbed his collar and almost yanked him off the ground, I was seriously rooting for it to turn round and bite her on the nose and then dragged him away,he did look like he had a great time though

So watch out the Muppets are out in full force today. I am getting to the point where I avoid popular places at weekends because so many people seem to be like this , and it really pees you off. Sorry rant over. xxxxx

That is exactly why Mo had a run in the woods and home. Thats enough for her she will sleep most of the day now.
The world and his wife have decended on South Devon this weekend and we have decided to stay at home.
When they have all gone home next week, and the weather is better we will go to the beach

Weekends and Bank Holidays we do our walks early in the morning just to avoid the muppets. Although the weather is so dire today they've probably gone shopping instead.

What a flaming cheek she had shouting at you to control Mack, when her dog was out of sight (& control) for ages before she realized!!!!

You did right setting her straight, well done!

There are gale force winds here today. The sea looks amazing, great mountainous waves and an escaped feral boat in the harbour! Anyway I took my lot out along the river walk nearby and despite the wind the bank holiday dog walkers are out in force - which my lot loved- lots of new pals to be made. But sadly not all the owners seemed to agree. We met a couple with a young Yorkie who looked especially petrified at the sight of greyhound Alice. Alice and Yorkie said hello happily but before they could get too friendly the wee doglet was hastily swooped up into doting owners arms!
Talk about setting your dog up for a behaviour problem with large dogs!

Glad I am not the only one I agree Tova, I think the reason some small dog have a problem with bigger dosg is because the owner won't let them be a dog. They don't know a GSD is a GSDfor instance, that is us trying to influence the dog,

Mack loves to play, and it is lovely to see him do it with a new dog, as after he was attacked, it has taken time to build his confidence up. So I was feeling very pleased about that.

She was very rude and it only after I have sat down with a cuppa that I am becoming more annoyed. I was trying to get away from the loon as quick as possible TBH, because I could see Mack getting unsettled,he does not like shouting , so as she was raving I was clipping onto his lead, and concentrating on him.

I was taking the dogs and the kids for a long forest walk tomorrow but won't bother, as it will probably be packed, so looks like it is canal walks through the country for a few days.

It's exactly the same where I live (on the edge of a big town, 2 minutes walk from the countryside). I don't know what these people do with their dogs during the week or when it's bad weather. Put them in a cupboard perhaps?

We always get people who, because they don't take their dogs out and socialise them properly, are scared to let their dogs play.

Hopefully with the weather being so bad, we won't get many muppets up here (we've got gale force winds and snow!).

I completely sympathise with you Moonstone, if I were you I would avoid the canal towpath like the plague as I have more arguments on the one by me than anywhere else!!!
Luckily for me, girlies in kennels till Tuesday and I am at OH's in Bristol being pampered (he has just bought me a bacon and tomato sarnie, how nice is that??)
As you say, it is the owners who give little dogs problems with big ones, we have a papillon near us that gives my girlies total grief if they dare even think about coming near her, my girlies have the utmost awe and respect for her!!! The owner has several dogs, all different shapes and sizes and the papillon is the Queen of All, so carries it over to my 2, who bow down before her.
That poor old lab, not being allowed to have a life, what do people get dogs for eh?

TW The canal walk near my house is great, only very few people use it, mostly walkers and a few dogs,we often see a pair of gorgeous Mals being exercised there. As their owner says it is virtually small furry free and my two just love them, and he is always nice about Mack.

Intolerance by other dog owners is definitely getting worse. They cause half the problems not the dogs people need to relax and let dogs be dogs
