Ringcraft classes

I emailed a local ringcraft class a while ago asking about them, and they basically said just come along at the next class, we run them the first Tuesday of each month. So of course, that's this Tuesday.

Thing is, I'm not sure wether to go. For a start, I'm only 15 and I have a strong feeling I'll be the youngest person there. I mentioned my age in the email so I am allowed, just thinking it might be awkward or that people might think I'm the average 15 year old who got a puppy for christmas and will get fed up with it in the next few weeks.

Also he's only just 5 months, so is he too young? When we decided to get a BC pup, we never planned on showing but too cut a long sotry short, we got a pup that was supposed to be going to a showing home, the breeder said he could do very well if we wanted to get into it. But then that could have just been a line that she says to everyone, I don't know. I can't see that being the case but you never know. I've never done anything like this before, so what should I expect? What will a good lesson be like?

Thankyou
Alice

Hi Alice,

You're not too young at all, and I'm sure that if it is a good ringcraft class then they will welcome you and your age won't be a problem!

There is nothing stopping you trying, and no your puppy is not too young! You cannot enter shows until he is 6 months, but I first took my puppy to ringcraft when she had finished her jabs!

Go for it! Enjoy! No one will judge you!

Go for it Alice. Taking your puppy to classes can only do both of you good. Mine is 7 months now and I have been wanting to go to classes for some time but other things in my life keep preventing me from going. This is a pity as it would help my puppy to be able to socialise with others. So, you go for it, seeing as you have the opportunity.

your age, and that of your pup shouldnt be a problem at all, most ringcraft classes positively encourage 'the next generation'. My youngest lad is only 12 (ooops nearly thirteen), he attends ringcraft and is treated just like any other member, no one talks down to him.
Go and enjoy yourself, I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised

They only hold the classes once a month????? It's usually once a week. They may have been referring to match nights, often once a month ringcraft classes have a little competition for everyone.
Better check in case you miss out!
Good luck but you won't need it.

Go for it!!

Have you thought about joining the Young Kennel Club too. They do a camp every year where you go along with your dog and do various "doggie" activities plus various other events through the year at some of the shows. It costs £10 to join and as a member you get a free admission to Discover Dogs and a ticket for entry to Crufts too, so worth it for those alone I think. My son is a member and so he was able to get in to DD and we will be using it for Crufts next week.

Hi. My nephew, who uses this account more than me (we live together) is 15, and our local obediance is every other week, well, inbetween is ringcraft. So we just took him on wednesday just to let him socialise, and he liked it ... he as also worried people would think that he would forget about the dog after so lang etc. but he decided to prove them wrong

Just go ahead and do what you like, don';t worry about what people think about you
