My dog nearly got drowned by another dog today.

We were happily watching Loki play in a stream in our local wood when this other dog (possibly a Lab) came charging down the hill. At first they were cheerfully sniffing each other and then, when the owner finally ambled up, The Other Dog (TOD) started leaping on Loki and barking and growling at him.
The owner then admitted that he gets very dominant with younger dogs and soon Loki was being rolled onto his back by this dog who was twice as big as him and being held down.
Loki wriggled away and ran around playfully then charged into the stream. TOD followed him and suddenly TOD had rolled Loki onto his back in he stream and was standing on him! Loki was being held right under the water!
The owner and I ran up and shoued at the dogs and Loki struggled free and ran to me (absolutely soaked head to toe) and she pulled her dog away.
She then went on to go on about how the dog was 'only playing' and being dominant and she felt bad that he did it but 'there you go'.
For goodness sake. If you knew your dog was likely get rough with younger smaller dogs, surely you'd call them to you before they had a chance to do anything?
What a shock.

Poor Loki. we know exactly how you must of felt, as we had this a couple of years back when a rather Overly playful Rotti (Henry) sunk Skye in the lake we had to get in to pull him ashore and pull ashore a rather bedraggled Skye who was coughing a spluttering Luckly she was unhurt

Oh dear
Glad he is OK
So bugging that people think its OK for their dogs to do things if they think they are being dom - cos of course thats natural

NO ITS NOT, its not a sign of dom - its just rude

You took the words right out of my mouth! The dog is not dominant. It's just plain rude and has no clue on how to properly interact.

I'm sorry you and Loki had to go through that! Glad Loki is ok.

I can well imagine how this must have made you feel. What a rubbish owner, no wonder her dog is so boisterous! It clearly has no boundaries.
