One of Libby's babies has a harelip :(

Noticed last nigth that one of them wasnt thriving and was cold. We checked him an I noticed he had an harelip
I'm a bit annoyed because I took Lib to the out of hours vets on Saturday for an onytocin jab as we weren't sure they want another pup left and the vet checked the entire litter for Cleft Palette and managed to miss it.
Ive just coem back from my vets I'm going to try to hand rear it, if he survives my vets going to stitch it for me at cost at 8 weeks old.
To be honest we were sure wether to have him pts and we're still not sure we made the right decision to bring him home but were going to try.
Has any one else had this happen and if so was the op a success, ny vets admitted he's never tried it before.
Cant believe this is happening again after Molly.
Keep everything crossed for the poor little mite please.

I haven't experience a cleft lip personally but on one of the staffy forums their is a adult dog with a cleft lip and palat who has only just had hers done, and she is perfectly healthy apart from that i think.

Good luck with the pup, fingers crossed she survives.

hiya

also never experienced it, but have seen a few dogs around with cleft palate that seem to survive ok, so I suppose its just a case of seeing if he can feed ok and take enough to keep him going til the op?

good luck

Good of you to take on such a task. Somehow I think that is one you will keep, the bond will be strong.
