Docking, Dew Claws, Vaccinations - worth it? - try a simple risk assessment here

Bit of fun...

Anybody ever do risk assesment as part of their job?

In simple terms

Likelihood of something happening X Severity of injury if something does happen

Here's a standard approach - give it a go

For Likelihood of something happening ......

1 Seldom

2 Frequent

3 Certain or Near-Certain

On the other side of the coin you have:

Severity of injury if something does happen......

1 Minor cuts and bruises

2 Serious injury or incapacitated for three days or more

3 Fatality or seriously injured

Here's the link.

You will have to scroll down to get to the 'calculator' to run your risk assesment and you will need to type something (any old words) in the 'risk being assessed' box. Obviously you make your own opinion on whether you choose 1,2 or 3 for each catergory but give it a go.

It's a very simple example of risk assessment but try it for your views on........tail docking, dew claw removal, vaccinations, kennel cough spray, painting your gutters with a one legged ladder etc etc

It's ok, the problem is which hole to tick, because in order for it to be assessed properly, you would need to know the statistics of the likelihood of something happening.

Of course you could just put unlikely for everything, which wouldn't give a true assessment.

It is very crude and not the best example but....

In the real world you would do a propper assesment based on info you had gathered through accident reporting so you wouldn't be making up your own mind - you would be using collected data - much like an insurance company does when they ask what your age is, where you live, gender, type of car etc.

On-line you will find many better risk assessments that you can try.

They are usually made up of lots of simple questions but the data will always be 'put' through that simple formula of 'Likelihood of something happening X Severity of injury if something does happen'
