Acorns and Conkers

There doesn't seem to be any this year, not round here anyway. I wonder why?
Has anyone else noticed a shortage this year?

I think its because so many of the Horse Chestnut trees have got that blight caused from moths. There are three of them near us and usually the ground is covered in them. The foliage looks wonderfully green in spring and then all the leaves just start to go brown and curl up.

Yet another tree species which could be wiped out with 5 years.

I noticed that too - we usually try to get some conkers but the ones we found were tiny baby ones.

Bad weather earlier in the year stopped a lot of trees flowering and therefore not fruiting.

That's it here, we had a late frost which I think affected the blossoms setting . It reduced the fruit harvest too.

I have seen a few conkers but they are quite small.

Exactly. There was a program on TV about this a few weeks back, due to the weather change the above was the result.
They actually had concerns over these type of tree's ie Oak, Horse Chestnut etc etc as the climate change weatherwise has really effected them.

But its not just these tree....fruit trees are suffering too and those fruits that are grown and supply this country for our consumption have had a really bad harvest this year....as did the potatoes

There were around here - had to walk the dogs with the hood up and raincover on the buggy for a few weeks or risk the baby being hit by one!

Oooh that could be what's wrong with the Horse Chesnut in my garden then

The leaves came out lovely and green than gradually by the summer they were brown and curling. No conkers this year either.

Will the tree die??? Just wondering as if it falls this way it'll take out the house
