Someone has tried to break into my car and now I cannot get in!!!

Basically, I havent used my Jazz for a few weeks - I charged the battery a few weeks ago to ensure it kept going but went to open it today and;

A) the battery is flat
B) on one side, the key cant get in the door, and on the other, the key wont turn. This is not normal! The keys have always worked fine!

So, other than bashing a window, any ideas how to open my car?!

Are you with a breakdown company? (AA/Green flag/RAC)?

No, because its currently SORNed and uninsured. I was going to clean it in preparation to go to the garage (picked up, not driven) as it needs a new gearbox.

What made you think someone had tried to break into it?

I understood that if your battery is flat your key won't work as it needs power from the battery to send the signal. i.e. battery dead - car's computer can't respond to directions from key signal.

If the boot has a keyhole, see if that opens and you can climb in from there (according to hubby you can anyway!)

I think someone has broken in because;

A) the state of the two doors locks - previously I was able to use these by key, now I am unable to put the key in one side, the side I can put the key in won't turn.....

B) the very dead battery which makes me suspect the alarm had been going off. Trouble is, everyone around here works full time..... while I know there was enough charge in the battery to last standing for a few weeks, it wouldnt have lasted long if it was sounding off.

While the key can move in the boot lock, it doesnt seem to be unlocking? Is it connected to the central locking or something?

Yes, everything is connected, and although it's still using the solonoid (sp?) it should still unlock it if you try hard enough. Are you actually using the right key he says, or is that a stooopid question! Maybe try the spare?? He also says if somebody has been trying to get into it, they could have damaged all your locks or even GLUED them which they do apparently!!! If you are insured fully comp, just break the window he says and then get the window people in!
