Would you buy 'homemade/handmade' treats?

Whilst I'm sat at home looking for a job, a friend and I had the thought of making and selling dog (and cat) treats online (or in a shop!)

We both have a variety of dog treat cookbooks, with various recipes in for biscuits etc.

In general - would you buy treats like this? Tested on (my) dogs, reasonably priced, full list of ingredients?

Can you think of any concerns/issues/problems we may face?

In a word, yes.

I board dogs and every Christmas I try to find unique gifts for my best boarding clients (this year it was wine but in a laser-etched wooden box) and so homemade treats would certainly fall into that category.

They would also be useful for doggy birthdays too.

So +1 from me!

Just thought, your challenge might be postage costs. If you price your product too cheaply, then the postage costs seem really expensive by comparison, but if you price your product too expensive then the added on postal costs may be the thing that puts people off.

So getting the size/weight aspect of the product right for optimum postage costs would be quite important.

Place samples on the shop counter and see.?

I am a sucker for the deli home made looking packets in p@h over the garish yellow of the big brands ..

Shelley, yes, I would be interested.

There's quite a lot of things to consider when setting up a business these days but they can all be overcome with intelligence and enthusiasm which I'm reasonably sure you have in abundance

Yes, we do . When Dave is out on calls in certain places he stops and picks up some really nice biscuits for Max. I can't remember how much he pays for them but they are quite large.

I know that the lady suggests hers are kept in the fridge so would that be an issue with posting? I'm guessing that you would be using your hens eggs (if using eggs). We like to know that Max's treats are made with eggs from happy chooks so maybe advertise that as well as a selling point?

Good luck! Keep us posted.
