Keeping a dog in a sit position (wants to lie down)

After years of letting Ozzie lie down when we are stopped or waiting . He sits then drops himself down and its never been an issue ,until now as he is training for his bronze award ...
I can always get him back up to the sit but wait a few sec's and he drops down again some times going on his side and chilling .lol
Any tips on keeping him in the sit ..
Food in hand at nose height ?

He could be uncomfortable in a Sit. Does he normally sit for any length of time? It could be a physical thing, in which case you wouldn`t want to force him to do it.
If he`s OK physically, and he`s not on a cold or wet surface, he probably needs you to teach Sit Stay from scratch? Start with him on lead and reward after a second and build up.

I wouldn't force him if there's a chance he's uncomfortable because of a physical issue, but from a training POV I've seen the 300 peck method be recommended for things like stays as well as loose lead walking - you could use the same method with sits, downs, etc. too I'd have thought.

I thought you could do the stay in any position so long as they stayed in that position throughout?

From what my class have told me the dog can be in a sit stay or down stay - it is your choice.

We have a daxie in the class who finds it uncomfortable to sit so lies instead. Im sure this is ok, for KC gold anyway?

For the stay exercise in Bronze, Silver and Gold, the dog can be in ANY position, down, sit or stand.

The dog must retain that position the whole way through, so, for example, if the dog is left in the sit, it must remain in the sit position, if it goes into a down it is "not ready".

No allowance is made for a dog that will not stay as there are three positions you can choose from, so whilst the dog may be uncomfortable in the sit, there is no reason it could not be in a down.

So I am not sure what you are worried bout?

Even in a normal sit he drops down ...
The stay is not the problem its the sit ..
I say sit as we walk around the room for instance and he will sit look at me then drop down ..
