Chiropractor fear :-(

Hi,

I was just wondering if any of you have been to a chiropractor? I suffer from migraines and have been told by the headache specialist that seeing a chiropractor may be worth a try.

I have an appointment booked for next week and i'm petrified. I'm not bad when it comes to pain (and have the tattoo's to prove it ) but i really dont like the thought of someone touching my neck!

Does anyone have any soothing words for me please? need some reassurance! No horror stories please!

I go every month and have done so for about 5 years, to cure my frozen shoulder and keep my spine straight, legs level and prevent migraines.

It is really not painful, the key is to relax.

I don't know what I would do without my chiro. They are great.

But it depends on how much you want to cure your migraines; mine are completely debilitating and leave me helpless for 24 hours or more, so take your choice.

My dogs go to a McTimoney chiropracter every quarter for a check up and treatment if needed.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm apprehensive but really hoping it will work, my migraines are not debilitating but they are daily and have been for about 7 years, i'm really hoping this will help if not cure them.

Never thought about dog chiropractors! wow! do they enjoy it too?

I have a friend who is a Chiro, she works on the dogs fairly regularly but (like you) I am a bit phobic about her working on me (despite frozen shoulder!)

However - about a year ago, I was a bit poorly (sick) and a couple of week later, woke up at silly o'clock not able to breath, in huge amounts of pain not able to move etc. I managed to relax enough to cope until daylight, and at 7am (she is an early riser) called her after Mum nagged me! I went over to her place and she worked on me before she went into work, it was not pain free, but the relief (I had apparently thrown some ribs out) when she got me straight again was so immense!!! She checked me again in a couple of weeks and that was fine. No problems since, but it has given me an insight into the dogs, although I know they are not comfy as it is happening, if they feel the same relief afterwards I can understand why they are happy to go to her (it has taken Tassle a while!)

Wow, sounds like she really helped you. So far I have only heard good things so i really hope it can work for me too. The lady at the practice seems very nice and reassuring too so I have specifically asked to see her to put my nerves at ease!

It must be strange for the dogs because they dont understand why they are doing what they are doing but i'm sure they appreciate it afterwards. I have a dog with a poorly leg / shoulder at the moment (Philly has his own thread), I'm wondering if this might be an option for him at some point....

I'm really fine with pain if its worth it i just have a real neck touching phobia problem! Think i may have been strangled in a previous life

McTimoney Chiropractic is different from other schools and it is not painful to the dog at all.

I often met my chiro in the car park at Motorway service stations and they just stand there in a state of bliss whilst small flicks are given along their spine. (And neither of my dogs are what you would call "pyjama cases"

I had the sire of my bitch for 7 weeks and he went with me too and the chiro reckoned he had been walking around with a permanent headache for a long time!

Tassle went to someone who did that (In Norfolk) - and it then took us months to get her over her phobia about people touching her back.

Everyone I spoke to said there was no pain involved for the dog. Needless to say she never went back. She would not even go near the woman afterwards to take some chicken from her.

(Sorry )

There are good and bad in all professions, I have been using my canine chiro for nearly 10 years and the dogs love her.

I also have an animal physio, who has the same effect.
